I am interested in what remains after looking: the remembered line of a ridge, the curve of water, the shape of trees or the weight of rock. These impressions become simplified forms, built through layers of paint, colour and mark-making. Shapes emerge, shift and overlap, often beginning with a remembered contour before loosening as the painting develops.

Colour, memory and the shapes of place

Each painting begins with an exploration of line and shape, guided by memory of mark making rather than a fixed plan. My palette often moves between earthy greens, rich siennas and oxides, corals and peaches, and hues reminiscent of mountain streams and clear ocean waters.

I often explore mixed media from graphite, collage and acrylic to oil sticks to evoke the sensation of being within the landscape. Layers build, textures emerge, and the image gradually finds its own rhythm.
